The Children’s Park of Tyler

110 E. Dobbs St.

Tyler, TX 75701

Day of Remembrance at The Children’s Park of Tyler is a sacred gathering to honor and remember the children we hold in our hearts. The event includes a roll call of each child’s name, meaningful words and music centered on grief, and a beautiful individual live butterfly release. Hearing our children’s names spoken aloud is a powerful reminder that they are not forgotten and that we do not walk through grief alone. It has always been our desire for every family who has experienced the loss of a child to share in the meaningful remembrance and hope this special day brings.

Last year, rain forced us to cancel our in-person gathering and quickly pivot to a Facebook Live event. What we did not anticipate was the beautiful community that formed during that virtual gathering. The comments were filled with families encouraging and supporting one another, and afterward, we received so many messages from people who were grateful they had been able to participate.

Grandparents, aunts, uncles and siblings who had moved away were able to hear the name of their loved one spoken. Families separated by miles joined online to remember and celebrate a child together. Others who were homebound or unable to come to the Park were able to participate from wherever they were.

Through that virtual experience, we watched our Community of Hope expand beyond the boundaries of the Park. It was beautiful and completely unexpected. With that in mind, this year’s Day of Remembrance will offer two ways to participate. We will gather in person at The Children’s Park in the morning, when the temperature is usually cooler. Gathering together in the Park will always be at the heart of this special day. In the afternoon, we will host a separate virtual gathering for those who need or prefer to join us remotely.

We continue to listen and learn as the needs of grieving families and the ways we connect with one another continue to change. Whether families join us in the Park or from their homes, we are honored to remember their children and walk alongside them on the unimaginable journey of losing a child.
